Middleboro Fuel Truck Rollover Forces Route 44 Closure
MIDDLEBORO (WBSM) — A stretch of Route 44 in Middleboro will be closed for most of this afternoon following the rollover crash of the oil truck.
Middleborough Firefighters Local 3653 posted a traffic advisory on the union’s Facebook page at 9:54 a.m.
“Fuel truck rollover in the area of Rt 44 in front of 47 Harding Street between the hotels. Please use caution as this is an active scene,” the union posted.
The two hotels are the Holiday Inn Express & Suites and the Fairfield Inn & Suites. There is an Irving gas station between the two hotels.
At 12:51 p.m., the Middleboro Police Department posted on its Facebook page that the road would be closed for at least four hours.
“Route 44 westbound (Harding Street) will be closed between the rotary and Mill Street, the on/off ramps to 495 North and South are also closed. This closure will last at least four hours. Oil truck that rolled over is being removed,” the department posted.
According to a Wareham Fire Department Facebook post, there were “approximately 20 Hazmat technicians on scene working to offload the tanker.”
Based on photos posted by the firefighters’ union, the truck is from the company Diesel Direct. According to its website, the company is based in Stoughton, Massachusetts.
