MIDDLEBORO (WBSM) — Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that occurred this morning in Middleboro that claimed the life of a Bridgewater man.

According to Middleboro Police Chief Joseph Perkins, a 23-year-old man from Bridgewater was killed this morning in a crash on Fuller Street.

Perkins reported that at about 11:41 a.m. this morning, Middleboro Police responded to Fuller Street, near the Halifax-Middleboro town line, for a reported motor vehicle crash.

First responders arrived to find that a white 2015 GMC pickup truck had struck a tree and flipped over into the marsh water. The sole occupant, the Bridgewater man, had been ejected from the vehicle and ended up in a small brook beside the road.

Perkins said the victim’s identity is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

“Preliminary investigation suggests that the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the accident,” Perkins said in a release.

He said divers from the Middleboro Fire Department attempted a water rescue but that the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by Middleboro Police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
