Mass Maritime Student Fatality Identified
BUZZARDS BAY — The Massachusetts Maritime Academy student who was found dead in her dorm room on Wednesday morning has been identified as 22-year-old Amanda Robinson of Bellmore, New York.
The Cape and Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois said in a statement that Robinson was a senior at the school and was set to graduate this spring.
A preliminary investigation indicates that she died due to a pre-existing medical condition, and her death is not believed to be suspicious, according to Galibois.
However, the Chief Medical Examiner's office will be conducting an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
State police were called to the scene at Robinson's dorm at around 9:42 a.m. Wednesday after her body was discovered in her room.
Mass Maritime President Rear Admiral Francis McDonald asked that the family's privacy be respected.
The Cape Cod Times reports that a vigil is being planned for Monday.
Robinson's death marks the third student death in Southeastern Massachusetts this month, after UMass Dartmouth student Frank Petillo Jr. was killed in a campus car crash on April 6.
Another UMass Dartmouth student, Alexandra Landry, also died on campus that same week.
