BUZZARDS BAY —The initial investigation into a Massachusetts Maritime Academy student who was found dead in her dorm room Wednesday morning has found no evidence of foul play.

That's according to a statement from Cape and Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois, who added that there is no threat to public safety.

State police were called to investigate after the 22-year-old woman was found dead in her dorm at Mass Maritime at around 9:42 a.m. Wednesday.

The woman has not yet been publicly identified.

Mass Maritime President Rear Admiral Francis McDonald confirmed "with a heavy heart and great sadness" that a cadet passed away in the school dorms.

"Until further details are available, we request that the privacy of the family be respected during this difficult time," he added.

No further information about the student or her unattended death have been released.
