A staunch advocate for veterans and the driving force behind the Korean War Monument at Clasky Common Park has died at the age of 82.

Howie Prescott died on Friday. He served in Korea and survived the gruesome battle of Pork Chop Hill.

Another veteran of Korea, Jim Leal of Fairhaven came to know Prescott years after the war, when he was pushing city officials to honor Korean War vets with a monument.....

Leal says former Mayor Fred Kalisz and then-City Councilor George Rogers worked with Prescott to make the monument happen.

Leal described Prescott as a great guy and a humble man, who had seen more than his share of death in Korea.
