This Gillette Stadium Shortcut Won’t Be Open to Everyone

Your favorite backroad route into Gillette Stadium events could be disappearing soon.

As a new football season gets set to begin, the Town of Foxboro has announced that pedestrian access to Gillette events is going to be changing. Non-residents will no longer be able use the popular Revolution Way, which runs behind Hobby Lobby and Trader Joe's, to access the stadium during events.

The plan is intended to limit the number of unauthorized vehicles and rideshare activity in the stadium's surrounding neighborhoods—and the plan sounds pretty strict.

Who Can Still Use Revolution Way?

If you have ever had someone drop you off or pick you up on Revolution Way and then walk into Gillette for a concert or game, that option is now off the table during stadium events.

Resident complaints about unauthorized drop-offs and pickups, including rideshare activity on residential roads surrounding the stadium, have led the town to restrict access to Revolution Way during events to Foxboro residents attending the event only.

Though the town does want to maintain the benefit of pedestrian access to the stadium for its residents, so police will now be checking people using Revolution Way to keep non-residents from using the route on their own.

What You'll Need to Get Through

The plan calls for people using Revolution Way to show proof of Foxboro residency and a valid event ticket. No ID, no ticket, no way down the road.

There Are Rules for Guests, Too

There are other restrictions, too. A Foxboro resident with a valid event ticket must be accompanied by no more than four people, and each of those guests must have their own valid ticket.

The resident must remain with their guests when entering through Revolution Way. They can't escort non-residents through the checkpoint and then leave, and non-resident guests must leave the stadium with the Foxboro residents who accompanied them.

Where Foxborough Residents Can Get Dropped Off

There will also be a specific drop-off location for pedestrian access to the stadium, located at 20 Payson Road behind the Upper Payson Recreational Complex.

Just don't plan on parking there. Vehicles and rideshares will not be allowed to park within the Payson Recreational Complex.

Even Leaving Through Revolution Way Comes With Rules

Those who may have used the road as an easier exit route will be restricted too. People leaving Gillette through Revolution Way will also be checked before being allowed to use the route.

It sure seems like a lot of effort to police one little road, but clearly residents have made their concerns heard and the town is stepping up to make sure Revolution Way remains a benefit for Foxboro residents and not the unofficial back entrance to Gillette for everyone else.
