FAIRHAVEN — A One-Million-Dollar plus project has been completed at Union Wharf.  It allows for Police and Fire responder boats to be docked at the same location. This should yield a quicker response time for water emergencies.

The Union Wharf Phase 2 West Wall Bulkhead Replacement and Improvements Project and the Public Safety Marina Project was celebrated by a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday afternoon. The project was funded by the Seaport Economic Council.

Several dignitaries were speaking at the event, including Massachusetts' Lt. Governor Karyn Polito. Polito said that when she first visited Union Wharf prior to the project completion she was concerned about having public safety response teams docked at different locations.

Polito added that the upgrades are a major improvement for public safety response to water emergencies. She also said that it will help other industry in the area, including the fishing industry.

Others on had for the ceremony were Rep. William Straus and fairhaven Selectman Charlie Murphy.
