BARNSTABLE — The man accused of killing a Yarmouth Police sergeant has been arraigned on new charges after officials say he brutally attacked a fellow inmate.

Barnstable County Special Sheriff Jeff Perry says Thomas Latanowich, 30, is charged with assault to maim and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after he allegedly used an altered shaving razor to slice a two-inch cut on the face and left ear of another inmate.

The attack is alleged to have taken place on November 10 and reportedly began as a fist-fight between the two men. Sheriff Perry says surveillance video shows Latanowich pulling a small, straight-edged razor from his waistband and using it to slash the other inmate.

Latanowich is being held as he awaits trial on a murder charge in connection to the April 2018 shooting death of Yarmouth K9 Sergeant Sean Gannon.
