BARNSTABLE (WBSM) — Barnstable Police say they arrested a Yarmouth man for a fatal shooting that occurred early this morning in Hyannis.

According to police, officers were dispatched at around 1 a.m. today to the North Street parking lot near Washington Street in Hyannis for a report of a gunshot.

The first officer arrived to find a man had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He began life-saving measures, but once the victim – a 41-year-old Hyannis resident – was taken to Cape Cod Hospital, he was pronounced deceased.

Police said that witnesses informed them that a dark-colored pickup truck had left the area after the shooting. The vehicle and its driver were located a short distance away from the North Street crime scene.

Police took the driver, a 36-year-old Yarmouth man, into custody. He is being charged with murder and is currently being held without bail at the Barnstable Police station.

Police did not identify the victim or the suspect.
