A fire causes extensive damage to a strip of businesses in New Bedford's North End.

The fire broke out just before midnight at 535 Belleville Avenue, in a complex that includes a donut shop, a gas station and a chinese restaurant.

District Chief Jeff Pothier tells WBSM News, the fire actually started in the rear of the building.

Chief Pothier says most of the damage from the two alarm fire occured in the restaurant.

He says city officials will be on hand on Friday to assess the structural condition of the building.
