New Bedford Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash Saturday in the city's North End.

The collision, involving a motorcycle and a car, happened around noon in an intersection at Ashley Boulevard and Wood Street.

Residents told WBSM News that a large crowd of onlookers gathered at the scene as police and fire apparatus responded quickly.

The motorcycle operator was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The operator's condition is unknown. No information was available on the driver of the car.

Police blocked off the intersection with cruisers and yellow tape while the department's Accident Reconstruction Team remained at the site for more than an hour investigating the collision.

Debris could be seen scattered on Ashley Boulevard for about 50 feet north of the intersection.
