Fall River Teen Arrested for Assault, Armed Robbery

FALL RIVER — State police tasked with apprehending violent fugitives on Wednesday arrested a 17-year-old Fall River boy who is wanted on armed robbery and assault charges.

The charges stem from an incident that took place last weekend, but the boy is also wanted for violating his parole by leading state troopers on a chase two weeks ago, state police said.

As he is a juvenile, he will not be identified.

The teen was caught after troopers with the state police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and a parole officer visited his family member's 656 Second St. home late Wednesday morning.

State police said they saw the suspect in the apartment, and eventually found him hiding in a closet.

As they started to arrest him, six of his friends who were also present (three boys and three girls, all juveniles) allegedly tried to pull the trooper and parole officer off him.

The friends tried to push and strike the officers, according to state police.

Because they were all juveniles, the officers waited for backup to ensure they could take the suspect into custody without using force.

Fall River police and state police troopers from the Dartmouth barracks arrived to help, but the suspect had fled into the attic and barricaded the stairwell door, state police said.

Authorities managed to persuade him to leave his barricaded position and surrender without further incident.

Three of his friends in the apartment — one male and two females — were found to have been reported as missing.

They were handed over to a local youth services and treatment agency.

The teen is charged with armed robbery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery, stemming from an incident that occurred several days ago.

State police did not describe the armed robbery incident.

The boy had violated his parole when he refused to stop for troopers trying to pull him over two weeks ago and led them on a pursuit.

He had previously been paroled from a conviction for stealing a firearm.
