Fall River Announces Parking Ban Ahead of Weekend Snow
FALL RIVER (WBSM) — The City of Fall River has announced a parking ban ahead of this weekend’s expected snow, even as meteorologists are predicting a plowable amount of snow is unlikely for much of the SouthCoast.
Mayor Paul Coogan announced a citywide parking ban would go into effect beginning Saturday, January 6 at 12 p.m. and until further notice.
While the ban is in effect, parking is allowed on the north side of all city streets that run east and west, and allowed on the west side of all streets that run north and south. In most cases, that means no parking on the fire hydrant side.
A violation of the parking ban could mean a $65 ticket.
Your vehicle could also be towed if in violation of the parking ban; if so, the owner of the vehicle must call (508) 676-8511 to find out the location of the towed vehicle. Then, all towing fees must be paid to the tow company before the vehicle will be released back to its owner.
During the ban, residents can also park vehicles at the following locations: the Flint Municipal Parking Lot on Cash Street; the City of Fall River Municipal Parking Lot at the corner of Columbia Street and Hunter Street; Talbot Middle School on Melrose Street; and the parking lot on Hood Street.
While many meteorologists are predicting about one to three inches of snow for New Bedford and much of the SouthCoast beginning Saturday and ending by Sunday afternoon, outlets such as the Weather Channel and Accuweather are still predicting a possibility of three to five inches for Fall River.
ABC6's Cecy Del Carmen has Fall River in the one-to-three-inches range as of Friday afternoon.
