The ferocious attack on Attorney General William Barr that was launched by Democrats within hours of his testimony this week before the Senate Judiciary Committee is calculated, and with good reason. The Democrats are scared to death of him.

Wall Street Journal columnist and author Kimberley Strassel, also a Fox News contributor, sums it up nicely in a piece on the Fox News website by recalling from Barr's testimony something that has largely gone unnoticed and unreported by the media, much of which is still blinded by the Trump collusion delusion. I assure you, though, Barr's words were not lost on the Democrats.

During the hearing, Barr repeated his promise to investigate who ordered the Trump-Russia probe and whether laws were broken. Barr said he'd already assigned DOJ staffers to assist.

"He said his review would be far-reaching – that he was obtaining details from congressional investigations, from the ongoing probe by the department’s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, and even from Mr. Mueller’s work," Strassel writes. "Mr. Barr said the investigation wouldn’t focus only on the fall 2016 justifications for secret surveillance warrants against Trump team members but would go back months earlier."

Barr also indicated he would also probe the opposition research "dossier" that the FBI relied upon to launch the investigation of Trump and the Trump campaign.

"Mr. Barr acknowledged his concern that the dossier itself could be Russian disinformation, a possibility he described as not 'entirely speculative.' He also revealed that the department has 'multiple criminal leak investigations under way' into the disclosure of classified details about the Trump-Russia investigation," she said.

Attorney General William Barr is no Jeff Sessions and is not timid about mixing it up with deep state actors to get to the bottom of what appears to have been an attempted coup against the Trump Administration. The best strategy for the Democrats right now is to attempt to discredit Barr with baseless allegations and threats. Barr is not intimidated.

Watch for the attacks against Barr to ratchet up in the coming days and weeks as his investigation gets closer to the truth.

This is no longer about the Mueller Report or even Russia collusion. This is about keeping high-ranking Democrat officials from going to jail.
