Town Meeting members in Dartmouth have shot down a plan to create a waterfront recreational park in the town. The plan was voted down by a 111-94 margin at Tuesday's Town Meeting. It would have created recreational space and facilities for kayakers and those with other small, man-powered boats.

The Town had received a $1 million grant to purchase the property on Water Street that would have hosted the park. Select Board member Frank Gracie says the grant is useless now. "The Seaport Economic Council made it very clear that we could not do anything with another property. It had to be for Water Street because that's what the grant was given for," said Gracie. "My feeling is, the million dollars just goes away to somebody else and we're right back where we started."

Members did approve plans to replace the roof of the Dartmouth Middle School. The cost of the project is an estimated $3.5 million, with the Massachusetts School Building Authority reimbursing the Town up to 50% of the cost.

A feasability study of the roof replacement will now be launched.
