Dartmouth's Padanaram Bridge Closed Due to Heat

DARTMOUTH (WBSM) — The Padanaram Bridge is currently closed due to the extreme temperatures.

According to Dartmouth Public Works, the bridge “is currently closed due to a mechanical issue caused by extreme heat, with repairs ongoing and detours in place.”

The department had announced on Thursday that the bridge would be closed this morning from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. so that one of the bridge jacks could be replaced. However, as of this writing, the temperature is 89 degrees with a RealFeel of 104 degrees due to the high humidity as well.

Heat-Related Bridge Failures

The bridge was previously closed on July 3, 2026 for a mechanical issue related to high temperatures. It did not reopen until July 5.

The New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge also frequently has to close to vehicular traffic in high heat and humidity due to mechanical issues.

Current Padanaram Traffic Detours

Dartmouth Public Works had announced the following detour in preparation of the planned repair work this morning.

Heading west:

Gulf Road to Bakerville Road to Russells Mills Road to Elm Street to Bridge Street

Heading east:

Bridge Street to Elm Street to Russells Mills Road to Bakerville Road to Gulf Road
