Overnight Dartmouth Explosion Injures Resident, Kills Dog
DARTMOUTH (WBSM) — The cause of an explosion at a Dartmouth residence overnight is still under investigation, which left one person with serious injuries and claimed the life of a dog.
According to Dartmouth Police Chief Brian P. Levesque, the police department is actively investigating the explosion, which occurred in the garage of a home located at 20 Sagamore Drive and required a response from the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad.
Dartmouth Police and Dartmouth Fire District 1 received multiple 911 calls at around 12:57 a.m. Tuesday reporting the explosion at the home. Crews arrived to find heavy fire and explosions in the garage of the home.

Resident Hospitalized After Overnight Blast
All residents had been able to escape the home before first responders arrived. One of the residents suffered burns and was taken to a Rhode Island hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to Levesque.
Their identity was not released and no other injuries were reported.
Family Pets Impacted by Explosion
Three dogs were inside the home at the time of the explosion; one was determined to be deceased at the scene while another was taken to a veterinarian for emergency treatment. Levesque said the third dog had been missing following the explosion but was located this morning and was uninjured.
Bomb Squad Assessing Cause of Garage Blast
Bomb squad technicians “responded to assess the scene for any hazards that could have contributed to the explosion,” Levesque said. Their investigation is ongoing, as is the investigation into the origin and cause of the explosion.
