DARTMOUTH (WBSM) —- Some moviegoers who are fans of a certain Broadway musical that has just been released as a feature film may be “wicked” disappointed when they visit the Dartmouth Mall’s AMC movie theater.

It’s not that Wicked, as a film, isn’t living up to expectations; the film, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, is getting rave reviews. Instead, fans will be disappointed by a disclaimer that hits the big screen before the film starts.

“At AMC Theatres, silence is golden,” the narrator says over scenes from the film. “No talking. No texting. No singing. No wailing. No flirting. And absolutely no name-calling. Enjoy the magic of movies.”

It’s the “no singing” part that is going to have some thinking there’s no place like home for seeing the film, because at least there you can sing your ruby slippers off without bothering anyone.

The disclaimer is running throughout all the AMC chain, including Dartmouth. A person who attended an early screening of Wicked at the mall Wednesday night confirmed to us she saw it before the film. Other theater chains have actually posted signs in the lobby asking patrons to refrain from singing during the film.

We spoke to an AMC employee at the mall earlier today as she was waiting for the theater to open, and she said they didn’t have any signage up in the lobby, and she was unaware that there was a disclaimer before the film about it, since she had not seen the film yet.

However, she did point out that during screenings of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour last year, the theater encouraged patrons to sing along and dance in the aisles, although that was a concert film and not a movie musical.

Wicked fans don’t have to melt, though, at the thought of being unable to sing in the theater; there are plans to have special “singalong” screenings of the film at roughly 1,000 theaters across the country beginning on December 25. No word yet on if AMC Dartmouth will be one of them.

The Differences Between the ‘Wicked’ Movie and Show

The Wicked movie is faithful to the long-running Broadway show — but it does make a few significant changes to its source material.

I Drank Both of Starbucks’ ‘Wicked’ Beverages

In honor of Wicked, Starbucks introduced two limited-time beverages inspired by the film. Obviously, I drank them both.
