Who needs closet space and a private bathroom when you can live in the skinniest house in Boston?

A four-story home at 44 Hull Street in Boston is only 10 feet wide and 30 feet deep. That's downright thin. The skinny house is sandwiched between a couple of red brick apartment-type buildings in Boston's historic North End neighborhood, and across the street from a cemetery.

Business Insider says, "The narrow four-story house isn't a cornerstone of American history, but it is Boston's skinniest home," according to the Boston Globe.

I've not found a thinner home anywhere in Massachusetts, although I did find the Hollensbury Spite House in Alexandria, Virginia, at only seven feet, six inches wide.

Business Insider says the skinny home is "one of the lesser-known and unofficial stops near Boston's Freedom Trail," a 2.5-mile path with historic destinations such as Paul Revere's House and the Boston Massacre Site.

Movoto.com says Boston's skinniest house, built in 1862, has an interesting history.

"Legend has it, that during the Civil War, there was a feud between two brothers. When one of the brothers returned from the war, the other brother had already built a large house on the land, which they both had inherited from their father."

The site says the man built the skinny house "just to block the sunlight from his brother's large home."

The two-bedroom, one-bathroom home reportedly sold for $900,000 in 2017. Today.com reported it sold again in 2021 for $1.25 million.

That's the skinny on what is said to be the skinniest house in Boston.
