BROCKTON — A 56-year-old Abington man has been sentenced to serve at least 15 years in state prison after he was caught in Florida and convicted of repeatedly raping a young girl from 2014 through 2015.

The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said Scott McCaffrey was sentenced by Brockton Superior Court Judge Brian Davis on Tuesday to serve 15 to 18 years in state prison.

McCaffrey was convicted on May 4 after a jury found him guilty of five counts of aggravated child rape, four counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, and other related charges.

The other charges included one count each of disseminating harmful matter to a minor and lewd, wanton and lascivious conduct.

McCaffrey was tracked to an address in Florida and arrested by local police after the young victim contacted the Plymouth D.A.'s office and reported his crimes in January 2020.

She told the D.A.'s office that McCaffrey had sexually assaulted her multiple times starting in 2014 and through 2015.

According to the office, prosecutors had asked for up to 20 years in state prison for the charges.

McCaffrey will also spend five years on probation following his prison term.
