The State's 25th annual ceremony honoring bravery by firefighters in Massachusetts recognized four members of the New Bedford Fire Department.

Among those receiving Medals of Valor were Lt. Mark Raposa and Firefighter Matthew Forand for life-saving actions while battling a house fire on Dartmouth Street earlier this year.

Fire Chief Michael Gomes says both men raced into a burning building to rescue an occupant....

Also receiving awards were New Bedford Lt. Thomas Perry and Firefighter John Porchetti for their quick action in saving a suicidal man in the water off Clark's Cove.

Gov. Patrick said the ceremony paid tribute to ``amazing acts of courage and bravery'' by firefighters.
