NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — Fire broke out at a single-family home on Rockdale Avenue Feb. 5.

Around 5 p.m., crews arrived at 606 Rockdale Ave. to find a fire at the rear of the building.

According to the New Bedford Fire Department, neighbors attempted to slow the spread and extinguish the fire with buckets of water. Fire crews then searched the interior, removing multiple family pets.

The residents were not home at the time of the fire but will be able to reoccupy the home, according to the fire department.

Firefighters are working to determine the cause.
