NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A fire broke out Monday afternoon in New Bedford, displacing seven people.

On Monday, March 11, the New Bedford Fire Department responded to a basement fire on Earl Street.

Fire crews said they also located flames extending up the walls after the basement fire was extinguished. An additional hose line was used, and crews had to peel back the siding to extinguish the flames.

Seven tenants have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

There were no injuries reported. New Bedford Fire investigators are working to determine the cause.
