Freetown Career Criminal Sentenced for Multiple Offenses

FREETOWN (WBSM) — A Freetown man notorious for committing petty robberies pleaded guilty in Fall River District Court this week in five separate cases.

Brandon Demoranville, 37, will spend the next two years in the Bristol County House of Correction.

DeMoranville pleaded guilty to charges connected to five different incidents that occurred in Freetown between October 2022 and September 2023.

Those charges include two counts of possession of burglarious instruments, two counts of breaking into a vehicle or boat during the nighttime, vandalism, malicious damage to a motor vehicle, trespassing, larceny under $1,200, breaking during the daytime, and larceny from a building.

DeMoranville has a lengthy criminal record, including assault charges for allegedly beating a man with his prosthetic hand in 2017.

His latest crime spree began on October 20, 2022, when a neighbor contacted Freetown Police about a suspicious male entering a single-family home that wasn't occupied.

When police arrived, they found DeMoranville inside the home. He told police that he was "just looking around."

Then on November 29, 2022, DeMoranville was arrested after making threats to a victim who refused to purchase tools from him.

On January 6, 2023, DeMoranville was caught on video using a knife to cut open the cover of a pickup truck parked in a driveway. He then tried to enter the truck's cab but was unsuccessful.

On April 5, 2023, DeMoranville broke into a commercial vehicle belonging to the Delta Railroad Company. Once again, surveillance caught Demoranville using a pry bar to force open a tool/ storage compartment door on the truck. As a result, the doors were no longer functional.

Finally, on September 18, 2023, the defendant entered the backyard of a residential home and attempted to break into a locked vehicle. When he was unsuccessful, DeMoranville moved to a nearby shed and stole the homeowner's chainsaw.

"The defendant is a career criminal who has a history of breaking into people's property and stealing. He needs to be kept off the street to protect the community," District Attorney Quinn said.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Zachary Ferris and the jail sentence was imposed by Judge Kevin J. Finnerty.
