Fairhaven Firefighters Conduct Rescue Training Inside Wind Turbine

Fairhaven Firefighters conducted a training session on Friday inside one of the town's two wind turbines. 

Public Information Officer Wayne Oliveira says firefighters climbed the 280 foot ladder inside the turbine to the generator room at the tip of the tower, learning how to evacuate workers should one become injured on the job. 

Employees of Genesis Energy reviewed safety procedures with fireighters, showing them how to disable power in case of emergencies. 

They also practiced lowering a would-be disabled employee down the tower to ground level.
