Police have charged a 21-year-old woman with leaving a 2-month-old infant in her car for about 20 minutes while she had a morning drink at a bar.

Police say the woman at first brought the infant into the Hingham bar with her just before 10 a.m. Thursday. She was refused service and left, but returned a few minutes later without the child.

An off-duty police officer became suspicious and called local police, who found the infant under a blanket in a car seat. Temperatures were below freezing.

The baby was unharmed but brought to the hospital as a precaution.

The woman, whose name was not released, was charged with child endangerment and disturbing the peace. Police did not sday if she was the child's mother.
