Westport Deputy Chief’s Sweet Gesture For 5-Year-Old Birthday Girl
What started as a routine lunch break turned into a birthday memory that five-year-old Thea-Grace and her family will never forget.
On Tuesday, August 28 around noontime, Westport resident Karissa Majndle shared on Facebook how her daughter’s day was brightened by an act of kindness from a local police officer.
Majndle recalled pulling into Lee’s Market before meeting her husband for lunch at the Blue Lobster Café inside the local grocery store. Outside stood two Westport police officers. Thea-Grace, excited to see them, insisted on saying hello.
“She said, ‘It’s my birthday,’ and they both wished her happy birthday,” Majndle said.

A Birthday Surprise
As the family made their way into the café, one of the officers quietly approached Karissa with a kind offer.
“He said, ‘Would you mind if I buy her some cupcakes?’ I said that would be so sweet of you,” Majndle shared.

Moments later, the officer walked over to their table, handed Thea-Grace cupcakes, and said, “I hope you have a special day. Happy birthday, young lady.” Without waiting for thanks, he walked away.

Majndle admitted she didn’t catch his name, but the simple gesture meant the world to her and her daughter.
Detective Work Pays Off
Determined to give credit where it was due, I reached out to some friends at the Westport Police Department to identify the mystery officer. The kind stranger turned out to be Deputy Chief Rob Rebello.
“I just think recognition like that, especially for police officers, needs to be known,” Majndle said. “You truly meet the sweetest people unexpectedly, and I’m so thankful for him. I know it was just a cupcake purchase, but it meant a lot to me and my five-year-old daughter.”
Community Spirit
What may have seemed like a small gesture to Deputy Chief Rebello has become a cherished memory for one Westport family. These cupcakes not only gave Thea-Grace a birthday surprise but also served as a reminder of the kindness that exists within the community.
Kudos, D.C. Rebello.
