The New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge will be closed once again to vehicular traffic in order to repair mechanical components.

The bridge will be closed vehicles from Friday, January 8 at 8:00 PM until Monday, January 11 at 5:00 AM, according to a release from MassDOT.

The closure is necessary in order to permanently repair mechanical components that were temporarily repaired this past July. In order to reach these components, the bridge must remain in the "open position," that is, open to boat traffic.

MassDOT is advising motorists to seek alternate routes during these times.

Detour signs and message boards will be installed in order to direct and advise traffic.

All businesses along the bridge and on Pope's Island will be open during the maintenance period.

MassDOT also states the schedule for this work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
