WAREHAM — Federal authorities arrested a Wareham woman this week for allegedly stealing almost $50,000 in Social Security benefits.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Erika Cyr-Camara, 46, was arrested on April 14 and indicted on one count of theft of public funds. They say she was released on conditions after making an initial appearance in federal court in Boston.

The indictment charges that Cyr-Camara stole approximately $49,275 in Social Security benefits from March 2016 through July 2019.

If convicted, Cyr-Camara faces up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
