While spectators for Wareham's Fourth of July fireworks were celebrating their freedom, two men were being arrested nearby.

Police Chief Kevin Walsh says officers working the fireworks event Saturday received information that one of three people walking on Onset Avenue may have had a handgun. Police stopped the men and found a 9 mm handgun in the possession of 20-year-old Dominick Alves of Wareham. The gun was reported stolen from the Cape Cod area.

Also arrested was 18-year-old Markiese Tomkinson of Onset. Police say Tomkinson was carrying a bottle of alcohol.

Both men were arrested and have been arraigned in Wareham District Court.
