Four years ago, you were hard-pressed to find folks willing to admit they supported Donald J. Trump's candidacy for president, let alone turn out for a Trump for President rally.

Wow, have times changed.

These days, Trump supporters are turning out regularly in droves for rallies throughout the region. Hundreds of folks, including over a hundred bikers for Trump, gathered near the Dartmouth Mall on Sunday. Big turnouts were reported for rallies at other locations in the area as well.

Not since Republican Ronald Reagan defeated Democrat Walter Mondale in 1984 has Massachusetts gone red in a presidential election.

I am not delusional. I believe Joe Biden will carry Massachusetts in November. But there is enough red in such a deep blue state these days to make you wonder if a change might be in the offing in the future. Do you think conversion from blue to red is occurring in Massachusetts?

Supporters of President Trump have not only multiplied in Massachusetts but their boldness has increased as well. Not that long ago, a Trump supporter might be fearful of expressing his or her views in public. Wearing a MAGA hat or displaying a Trump yard sign was strictly for the brave of heart. All of that has changed dramatically.

I am anxious to see just how much support Trump will get in Massachusetts and how close the race will be. I am curious also to see what kind of coattails Trump might have for the downside of the ticket.

You may not support Donald Trump for president, and that's fine with me, but you must admit his support here in Massachusetts has grown and his supporters have become more vocal and visible.
