At three years old, Sapphyre Johnson has seen enough of the inside of a hospital to last her a lifetime. She has been a patient of Shriners Hospital since she was eight months old. Born without toes and fingers, she underwent amputation of both feet to be fitted for prosthetics as a one year old.

Now, a match made in pet owner heaven helps Sapphyre overcome her struggles. Lt. Dan is a nine-week-old white German Shepherd who shares a special connection with Sapphyre. The adorable pup is missing his front right paw. If it weren't for his previous owner, Karen Riddle, he might have been euthanized. Luckily, Riddle realized there was a home for him where he can make someone like Sapphyre very happy.

Named after the charming character in Forrest Gump, Lt. Dan is the perfect companion for sweet Sapphyre.
