Temporary Lane Closures Scheduled for Braga Bridge
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced today that it will be implementing temporary lane closures on the Braga Bridge, between Exit 4 in Somerset and Exit 5 in Fall River, beginning August 28, 2017 and continuing through September 22, 2017.
The lane closures are required to perform a routine bridge inspection as part of a 2-year rotation. The bridge inspection is required per the federally mandated National Bridge Inspection Standards.
Two lanes of traffic will be open during daytime operations and one lane of traffic will be open during overnight operations. Exit 4 and Exit 5 will remain open for the duration of the scheduled inspections.
There will be no lane restriction during Labor Day weekend or the week of Labor Day (September 1 through September 10).
Inspection work will be conducted as follows:
Monday, August 28 – Thursday, August 31
Daytime Monday, August 28, through Thursday, August 31, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and will result in the closure of the right lane on I-195 eastbound between Exit 4 and Exit 5.
Monday, September 11 – Friday, September 15
Daytime Monday, September 11 through Friday, September 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and will result in the closure of the right lane on I-195 westbound between Exit 4 and Exit 5.
Monday, September 18 – Wednesday, September 20
Daytime Monday, September 18, through Wednesday, September 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and will result in the closure of the right lane on I-195 EB between Exit 4 and Exit 5.
Monday, September 18
Overnight Monday, September 18, from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., and will result in the closure of the two left lanes of I-195 eastbound between Exit 4 and Exit 5.
Tuesday, September 19
Overnight Tuesday, September 19, from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., and will result in the closure of the two left lanes of I-195 westbound between Exit 4 and Exit 5.
Thursday, September 21 – Friday September 22
Daytime Thursday, September 21, and Friday, September 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and will result in the closure of the right lane on I-195 WB between Exit 4 and Exit 5.
Those traveling through the area should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.
The schedule for these operations is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
