TAUNTON (WBSM) — Electrical arcing appears to be the cause of a fire that broke out in the kitchen of a Taunton home this morning.

According to Chief Steven P. Lavigne, the Taunton Fire Department responded at about 8:27 a.m. to a report of a fire at 33 Oak Street.

Firefighters arrived and quickly extinguished the flames in the home’s kitchen. The residents had safely evacuated prior to the firefighters’ arrival.

No injuries were reported. Lavigne said the fire left the home with smoke and water damage. All crews cleared the scene by 9:41 a.m.

What Is Electrical Arcing?

“A preliminary investigation determined that the fire was electrical in nature,” Lavigne said in a release. “Electrical arcing – a dangerous discharge of electricity that jumps across a gap between two conductors – was discovered in the kitchen area by an appliance delivery man before the fire was reported.”

Investigation Into Taunton Fire Continues

The fire remains under investigation by Taunton Fire Lt. Jason Hayes.
