Bridgewater Home Saved from Major Damage After Early Morning Deck Fire
BRIDGEWATER (WBSM) — Firefighters extinguished a deck fire at a Bridgewater home earlier today that spread to the home’s exterior.
Neighbor Spots Pre-Dawn Flames in Bridgewater
According to Bridgewater Fire Chief John Schlatz, the department responded at about 4:11 a.m. to a single-family home at 116 Pratt Avenue after a neighbor called 911 to report a fire on the home’s deck.
Crews arrived to find flames showing from the rear left corner of the home, extending from the deck toward the roofline. Firefighters quickly knocked down the blaze and searched the home’s interior for any additional flames.

Smoke Alarms Prevent Tragedy
Schlatz said the home had working smoke alarms, and that as a result the residents were able to safely evacuate before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.
Investigation Into Cause Underway
The scene was cleared at about 6:17 a.m., while investigators from the Bridgewater Fire Department and Bridgewater Police remained on scene to determine the cause of the fire.
"Exterior fires have the potential to rapidly escalate and cause significant damage both inside and outside a structure," Schlatz said. "Our crews arrived on scene quickly and did a great job getting to the source of the fire to prevent widespread damage."
