Mattapan Man Summoned After Alleged Gunfire at Raynham House Party

RAYNHAM (WBSM) — A 26-year-old Mattapan man has been summoned to court after allegedly firing a handgun into the air at a house party in Raynham early this morning.

According to Raynham Police, the department received two 911 calls at about 1:02 a.m. reporting a noise complaint at a home on Britton Circle. The homeowner told responding officers the party would be shut down.

Then at about 1:33 a.m., another 911 call reported a disturbance and fight at the same location. It was also reported that shots had been fired.

The Investigation and Handgun Recovery

Police said the investigation revealed that an uninvited guest that the homeowner did not know had allegedly retrieved a gun from his vehicle, fired one round into the air, and fled the area. No injuries were reported.

Officers recovered a loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun that the suspect had allegedly thrown into the wrong vehicle while fleeing. The gun was registered to the suspect, and he has a valid License to Carry. During a two-hour search of the area, police were unable to locate the suspect.

Suspect Located in Taunton

However, at about 3 a.m., Taunton Police received a call from a resident in the area of Field Street and Woodview Drive reporting a man was knocking on their door asking for help. The officers identified him as the suspect sought by Raynham Police.

Charges Against Raynham Shooting Suspect

The suspect, whose identity is not yet being released because the court has not yet issued a criminal complaint, is being charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and two counts of improper storage of a firearm. The incident remains under investigation and police said there may be further charges.

"Thankfully, no one was injured despite a firearm being discharged during a large gathering," Raynham Police Chief David LaPlante said. "I would like to thank our officers, detectives and law enforcement partners for their coordinated response and assistance in locating the suspect."
