Halloween isn’t all about tricks. One Taunton family’s sweet gesture combines their love of the Halloween season with their desire to give back to the community for the entire month of October.

Michelle Kenney has always loved Halloween.

“It’s always been my thing,” she said. “It was always a big deal in my family because it was something my parents could always go all out for with decorations (without breaking the bank).” When she and her husband, Eric, moved to Taunton 11 years ago, she was more than ready to carry on the tradition of decking out her home in black and orange every October, inside and out.

Her front-yard display isn’t just pumpkins and hay bales, either. It’s an extravagant display of scary monsters, interactive games, fog machines and animatronics that the entire neighborhood gets to enjoy.

Yet this year, she wanted to do more.

She and her husband decided to team up with Matthew Mission Food Pantry in Taunton. They are a local church group that Kenney feels is the perfect organization to support.

“We were looking at different groups and we stumbled upon them,” Kenney said. “They’ve done a lot of great things for people. They were the perfect place to start.”

The Kenneys hope to collect nonperishable food items and some animal food from neighbors and friends that come to enjoy their scary display to donate to Matthew Mission.

“We’re really excited to not only spread some Halloween fun, but to also have a chance to give back to the community,” Kenney said.

They will have containers at the end of their driveway where people can place their donations, and they hope to have their display up and running by October 1 until November 1.

“The display will run nightly, and we look forward to seeing everyone’s smiling faces,” Kenney said.
