TAUNTON — A person who barricaded themself into a Taunton home that also had an unsecured firearm inside was found deceased inside the home.

Taunton Police Chief Edward J. Walsh said in a release that officers attempted for several hours to communicate with the person before gaining entry into the Grant Street home at approximately 8 p.m. this evening. Once inside, they discovered the subject was deceased.

Police had responded to the home on a report of a disturbance at about 2:20 p.m. this afternoon, arriving to find the subject had barricaded themself inside. Police soon learned there was an unsecured firearm in the home. Taunton Police and the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) tried to communicate with the subject.

Walsh said police would not be releasing the identity of the subject at this time, and that investigators from the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit attached to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office were called in to investigate the death.
