The 26th annual Buzzards Bay Swim on Saturday attracted more than 400 swimmers and kayakers making their way over a 1.2-mile over-the-water course.

Swimmers departed from the former Davy's Locker location in New Bedford's South End, to the Fort Phoenix State Reservation in Fairhaven.

The swim is a signature event for the Buzzards Bay Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting clean water in communities across the Buzzards Bay region.

In the past 26 years, the event has raised more than a million dollars for clean water programs and research.

The swimmers numbered more than 300 and ranged in age from 12 to 79. They came from communities across the South Coast, Cape Cod, New England and as far away as California, Florida, and Missouri.

This year's swim raised more than $185,000.
