A Swansea man charged with fatally shooting a 23-year-old woman last weekend has been ordered held without bail after pleading not guilty.

Timothy Levesque was arraigned Monday in Fall River District Court in connection with the death Sunday of Melissa White.

Prosecutors say the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the 56-year-old Levesque's sons and another group of people.

Sunday's shooting occurred after White and two men went to Levesque's home to confront one of his sons over a prior altercation.

Levesque told police he chased down their car intending to get its license plate number.

The Herald News reports that Levesque's attorney said the shooting was self-defense, with Levesque using a legally owned firearm to shoot the woman who came after him with a crowbar.
