The Massachusetts State Police are asking for the public's help as they try to identify the suspect who shot at a marked State Police cruiser on July 23.

The trooper was in the cruiser conducting a patrol near Forbes Blvd and Route 140 in Mansfield when he heard a loud bang from behind the cruiser.

As the trooper reversed direction he observed a white male wearing light colored clothing run into the woods and head towards the Super Stop & Shop.

A search was then undertaken by State Police, Mansfield Police and Foxboro Police and officers located a Thompson Triumph .50 caliber muzzleloader with a 28” Weather Shield coated barrel, a Redhead brand backpack and hunting cap.

The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the Massachusetts State Police at 508-961-1928.
