Southcoast officials urged a Citizens Advisory Committee meeting Tuesday night at UMass Dartmouth to consider both New Bedford and Fall River as locations for Summer Olympic events, if Boston ends up hosting the Olympics in 2024.

Mayor Jon Mitchell said sailing events would look great in waters off the South End of New Bedford....

Meantime, Fall River is offering the South Watuppa Pond as a site for Olympic rowing.

Boston 2024 organizers announced on Tuesday that plans were underway for a statewide vote in November 2016 on whether Boston should host the Olympics.

One speaker said if the construction of Southcoast Rail wasn't somehow tied to the Olympics, he suggested there would be no reason for this part of the state to vote "yes."
