Avery Barboza Crowned Miss New Bedford and Her Dad Is a Fun 107 Legend
Avery Barboza of Dartmouth is the new Miss New Bedford, and Lee'yah Nunes Wynn has been crowned Miss New Bedford's Teen after this past weekend's pageant at Greater New Bedford Voc Tech.
As has been the tradition for decades, the first official act of both winners is the appearance on the Fun 107 morning show.
We got a chance to get to know both of the winners and the conversation started with a surprise. We were shocked to discover that Avery's dad is DJ Roy Barboza, a local legend who was once Fun 107's official mix DJ.

A Dream Come True for Avery Barboza
Back to the more important topic of Avery's big win. We wanted to know what type of experience she had in the pageant world to help her in the competition. We were surprised once again to find out that Avery had never been in a pageant before. However, she did admit that she grew up attending a countless number of them.
Lee'yah Nunes Wynn Takes the Teen Title
Lee'yah, a student at GNB Voc-Tech, said the on-stage question was the toughest part. She was asked a serious question about what she wants to teach youth about domestic violence, which is also her community service initiative. She worried her short answer cost her points, but she still walked away with the crown.

What Are Their Community Service Platforms?
Avery plans to raise awareness about premature births because she was born two and a half months early. Both winners said they are excited to build relationships in the community and speak about the causes that are close to their hearts.
When Is Miss Massachusetts 2027?
The Miss Massachusetts pageant will be held in June. Both of these SouthCoast girls will have the chance to compete for a spot on the Miss America stage.
