Plymouth Family Displaced in Two-Alarm House Fire

The Plymouth Fire Department battled a two-alarm house fire Friday night that left a family displaced.

According to a release from Chief Neil Foley, firefighters were called to 2 Thompson Circle at about 6:08 p.m. on July 22 after receiving multiple 911 calls about a house fire. Firefighters arrived on the scene and “observed heavy fire coming from an attached garage with flames extending into the home,” the release stated.

Because of the hot weather on Friday, a second alarm was struck and more firefighters arrived to the scene to provide relief, and members of the Bourne Fire Department provided station coverage, Foley said.

The fire was declared under control at 6:50 p.m., and firefighters remained on the scene at least until 9 p.m. to extinguish any remaining hot spots.

No injuries were reported.

"I want to commend our firefighters who helped to quickly get this fire under control in extreme heat conditions," Chief Foley said. "It isn't easy working in these conditions and they did a great job. We are glad that no one was injured and the family was able to all make it out safely."

The home was deemed uninhabitable and the displaced family is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. The family was not home at the time of the fire.

Chief Foley said the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Plymouth Fire Department and the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office.
