Penn National Gaming is marking a milestone in its $225 million casino project at Plainridge harness racing track in Plainville.

The Wyomissing, Penn.-based gambling company says local politicians, business leaders and labor union officials will be on hand Wednesday morning for a ``final beam raising'' ceremony marking the completion of the building's structural steel shell.

Penn National Gaming won the state's first gambling license for the proposed slot parlor in February and officially broke ground on the project in March. Since then, a construction crew of about 200 has been working on the 100-acre property.

The slots parlor is being built beside the racetrack, which will continue to offer harness racing. It will feature about 1,250 slot machines as well as video poker and video blackjack terminals.
