House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi isn't saying which Democratic candidate she prefers in the party's primary in Massachusetts special U.S. Senate election.

Pelosi said both Democratic hopefuls _ U.S. Reps. Stephen Lynch and Edward Markey are 'valued members of the Congress'.

Pelosi, speaking after an event in Boston, said her top political focus now is trying to help her party win back a majority of seats in the House. Pelosi said that while Markey has been a leader on environmental issues, Lynch has been active in national security.

Markey was a key vote for Pelosi at a critical moment, supporting President Obama's health care law while Lynch opposed it.

Lynch's opposition came when Pelosi, then House Speaker, was trying to round up enough votes to get the measure passed in the House.  (Associated Press)
