New Bedford Police continue to investigate a "road rage" incident that sent the victim and his attacker to the hospital.

Police Chief David Provencher issued a statement Wednesday night, saying the incident happened around 3pm at Hemlock and Dunbar Streets.

Police say the 40 year old driver of a private van transporting four Roosevelt Middle School students was attacked by 19 year old Aaron Maldonado of New Bedford.  Both the driver and Maldonado sustained injuries, and as of Wednesday night, both were being treated at Rhode Island Hospital. Their conditions are not known.

According to the statement, Maldonado was arrested at his home, based on information provided by witnesses at the scene.  The students onboard the van were returned to their families, and the school department is making counseling available to students as necessary.
