NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — The motorcyclist killed in a crash on Route 18 in New Bedford on August 3 has been identified.

According to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III, the motorcyclist was Johan Marquez Marte, 37, of New Bedford.

Early-Morning Route 18 Crash

New Bedford Police responded at about 2:30 a.m. on August 3 to 911 calls reporting a single motorcycle crash on Route 18 in the area of Union Street.

Police arrived to find Marte injured and lying in the left lane between Union Street and Elm Street as a civilian performed CPR on him. New Bedford Police then took over life-saving measures until EMS arrived.

Marte was then taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

His motorcycle was found a short distance away, and the D.A.’s Office said preliminary investigation indicated Marte had lost control while driving the bike and the crash was not considered suspicious.

Police and D.A. Continue Investigation

It remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the D.A.’s Office and New Bedford Police.
