WAREHAM — Wareham Police are seeking a New Bedford man after he fled a traffic stop on Monday.

A Wareham Police officer working a detail on Hathaway Street at about 10:50 a.m. on Monday was directing traffic when he noticed Jazz Tavares, 29, of New Bedford, driving a vehicle with a female passenger.

Recognizing Tavares and knowing his driver's license had been revoked, the officer motioned Tavares to stop the vehicle. The officer told Tavares his license was revoked, to which he reportedly replied, "I can't believe you are doing this to me while you're on a detail." Tavares then allegedly accelerated the vehicle aggressively, prompting the officer to run out of the way to avoid being struck.

Shortly after the reported interaction, officers spotted the vehicle on Cranberry Highway by New England Farms. Police pulled the vehicle over, only to discover that the driver was the female who had earlier been a passenger. Police say the woman, Kristina Boucher-Szwedko, 26, of Mattapoisett, refused to cooperate with investigators. She was placed under arrest and charged with accessory after the fact of a felony, interfering with the duties of a police officer, and numerous motor vehicle violations as the vehicle was unregistered and uninsured with attached license plates. Two young children in the car were placed in the care of a family member who had been called to the scene.
