New Bedford Family Reunited With Firefighters That Delivered Baby
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — Firefighters are indeed a big part of our community, but putting out fires isn't always their only job.
A New Bedford mother and her family were recently reunited with the firefighters who helped her deliver her newborn baby from her home.
Fire crews said they were dispatched to a residence in Sassaquin on April 6 at around 1 a.m. The call was for a female who was delivering her baby.
One of the fire crews arrived and assisted the mother with the delivery, and stimulated the baby. According to the fire department, a returning medic from St. Luke's Emergency Department also arrived just two minutes later to help on the scene.
The mother Kelly and baby Liana were eventually transported to the hospital while EMS continued to provide patient care during the transport.
The family recently visited the New Bedford Fire Department on April 23. Kelly, baby Liana, her son Jayden, and her aunt all came to thank both crews for what they'd done that morning. The department said it was great to see them all doing well.
Kelly expressed her gratitude on Facebook, commenting under the New Bedford Fire Department for the unforgettable experience.
"I can't thank you all enough for everything," Kelly wrote. "I will never forget this experience or any of you you're all amazing."
